Showing off for charity

Many group travelers use hire buses from Charter Bus California for their transport needs to move around California. What they might not know is despite California’s current penchant for ecology friendly practice, organic, healthy food and fuel saving hybrid vehicles, California was once, and in certain places, still is, the premier place for car hot-rodding and modification in the United States.
As one of the states where owning an automobile is a necessity, not a luxury, California celebrates all that is best about the car. And there is no place better where this happens than the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Held every year in the third week of August, the Pebble Beach Concours is a place where the most elegant automobiles congregate to be shown and judged.
Racing was the start of the Concours. In 1950, the Concours was held as an adjunct event to the Pebble Road Race. An initial field of 30 cars was shown. Held at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, the Concours has grown today to become the ultimate classic car show competition in the world. The Concours is held to raise money for charity, and for 56 years has helped the United Way of Monterey County and the Pebble Beach Company Foundation. In 2010, it raised over $1 million for charity, and the Concours has donated $14 million to various charitable organisations over the years.
Show cars from all over the world are invited to participate in the Pebble Beach Concours. Entry requirements are stringent, and owners spend hundreds of thousands of dollars preparing their cars for competition. Cars that are shown include many automobile rarities, and cars with a famous lineage. Typical car values run into millions of dollars, and it was once estimated that the 2006 field at the Concours saw over $200 million worth of vehicles on display.
Having won a class prize at the Pebble Beach Concours, a car may not again be entered into competition for the next 10 years, unless the car has changed ownership, been restored, or the marque is of special interest. Attending the Concours is a great way to see some very interesting and obscure automobiles, and Pebble Beach is very much a social gathering as it is a car show.
Although there have been some comments that the Pebble Beach Concours is biased towards the wealthy who can afford to spend large amounts of money in caring for and restoring a car, a visit to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and the town of Pebble Beach, will be an enjoyable experience. Call Charter Bus California to arrange for a charter bus today.
